Her Life
Katharine Houghton Hepburn was born on May 12,1907 in Hartford, Connecticut; the daughter of Dr. Thomas N. Hepburn, M.D. and suffragist and women's rights activist Katharine M. Houghton Hepburn. She was the second of six children. Her older brother Thomas died in an accidental hanging in 1921 when Katharine was only 14 years old. She had tow younger brothers (Richard-1911-2000 and Robert 1913-) and two younger sisters. (Marion 1918-1986 and Margaret- Peg-1920-). Katharine is the one and only actress in history to win four Academy Awards and to never attend an Oscar ceremony. She won for her roles in Morning Glory (1933),Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? (1967), Lion In Winter (1968), and On Golden Pond (1981). Hepburn was nominated a total of twelve times, of which she tied the record with Meryl Streep until Streep beat Hepburn out in the last ceremony. |
